2025 Yankees Mets, Subway Series

The Subway Series between the New York Yankees and the New York Mets this past weekend featured a dramatic three-game set. Two World Series Contenders went back and forth in the games, but the Yankees were able to win the series 2-1.

Friday, May 16: Yankees 6, Mets 2

The Yankees took the series opener at Yankee Stadium with a 6–2 win over the Mets. Carlos Rodón delivered a strong performance on the mound, allowing just two runs over six innings. The offense was powered by Aaron Judge, who went 2-for-4, and Paul Goldschmidt, who added two RBIs. Devin Williams contributed to the victory, striking out Pete Alonso and Mark Vientos in a scoreless inning of relief. Pinstripe Alley New York Post

Saturday, May 17: Mets 3, Yankees 2

The Mets evened the series with a 3–2 win on Saturday. Francisco Lindor's sacrifice fly in the ninth inning drove in the go-ahead run. Despite the loss, DJ LeMahieu showcased a promising performance, hitting his first home run of the season as he went to the opposite field. This marks a hopeful sign for the Yankees as they look to bolster their infield depth amid injuries to Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Oswaldo Cabrera. New York Post

Sunday, May 18: Yankees 8, Mets 2

The Yankees bounced back impressively, defeating the Mets 8–2. Cody Bellinger delivered a standout performance, going 3-for-3 with two walks, six RBIs—including a grand slam in the eighth inning—and extending his hitting streak to 13 games. Max Fried continued his dominant season, pitching six innings with two runs allowed and eight strikeouts. The Yankees capitalized on Mets defensive errors, including a crucial throwing miscue by Pete Alonso, to take control of the game during their 6-run 8th inning.

Juan Soto Returns to the Bronx

Juan Soto's return to Yankee Stadium this past weekend was marked by a mix of fan fervor and personal challenges. The former Yankee, now with the New York Mets, faced a charged atmosphere during the Subway Series, where he was met with boos and jeers from the crowd. Despite the intense environment, Soto maintained his composure, tipping his helmet in acknowledgment during his first at-bat.

On the field, Soto's performance was underwhelming. Over the three-game series, he went 1-for-10 with four walks and no RBIs. His lone hit came in the series opener, and he was notably criticized for a lack of hustle on a ground ball during a pivotal eighth inning on Sunday, which Mets fans and commentators highlighted as a concerning moment given his significant contract. While Soto's return to the Bronx was filled with emotion and anticipation, his on-field contributions were minimal. As the Mets look ahead, they'll hope for a turnaround from their star outfielder, who has yet to find his stride in his new home.
